John began his shamanic journey when he had the opportunity to work with the powerful medicine man, Dawson No Horse, near Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in the 1970’s. He has worked as an addictions counselor and a program director.
John is also the founder and director of Sedona Wordsmith which is a grass-roots, cooperative publishing house and resource for writers. He conducts the Birth Your Book retreats, and works as an editor and writing coach. He is a screenwriter, a poet, and pens the popular blog, On the Road to Find Out. He has written two novels inspired by the Tarot: The Tower Card and The Redemption of Lucifer. John’s new book is a non-fiction work entitled, Becoming Shaman. It is something of a primer on modern shamanism and how that spiritual path can bring you insight, well-being, and enlightenment.
John introduced Shamanic Breathwork™ and other transpersonal methods as legitimate mental health modalities through his guest instruction of graduate counseling students at Eastern New Mexico University and Adams State University in Colorado. John has been a presenter at numerous conferences, councils, and gatherings.
John is grounded in traditional counseling theory as well as spiritual teaching and shamanic processes. His workshops employ traditional teaching, shadow-work, storytelling, breath-work journeying, and shamanic ceremony and ritual aimed at guiding participants past their personal limitations into the light of their pure potential.
John is ordained through and affiliated with the Venus Rising Association for Transformation in Whittier, NC, which offers advanced degrees in Shamanic Psycho-Spiritual Studies and Shamanic Healing Arts through Venus Rising University.
